In my late teens/early twenties, I was all about fancy-schmancy makeup. I wouldn't dream of buying something (other than maybe lipstick or the occasional eyeliner) to go on my face in the same place I bought ibuprophen and pretzels. After all, it was cheap for a reason, right? To me, drugstore discounts = shoddy products = Halloween face.
I grew up, got a job as a journalist (both on tv and in print) and eventually married and had two babies. My priorities changed, and so did my budget and my free time (i.e., there was none). Suddenly, that mineral powder on sale for $8 started looking pretty good. Sure, the packaging wasn't as good, and it wasn't as refined as the $18 version I'd been using, but it worked. Then the recession hit, my husband's company eliminated his senior-level job, and we found ourselves in fight-or-flight mode. Start our own PR/marketing business, sink or swim.
And in the meantime, I became a really good bargain shopper.
I'm by no means an expert in finance nor makeup artistry, but I hope to pass along what I've learned so far, and take you along with me for the ride as I continue to seek out ways to stretch the beauty dollar. Stay tuned!
